Happy Meal Tuesday

Don't forget that today Happy Meals are $1.99 at participating McDonald's and a portion of the money is used to support the Ronald McDonald Charities.  Perfect excuse to take a break from cooking today.  If you are worried about nutritional value remember that the apple dippers can replace the french fries and you can substitute a milk or juice for the soft drink.

Need a Break From Cooking Today?

Don’t   forget,   today is Happy Meal Tuesday.   Participating McDonald’s have Happy Meals for $1.99.   Take a break from cooking lunch or dinner today and treat your children and yourself to a Happy Meal.   Remember, McDonald’s does offer apple dippers instead of french fries and low fat   milk or apple juice instead of soda if you want a healthier alternative.   Also, remember that with the Happy Meals purchased you are helping children at the Ronald McDonald House as well.

Don't Forget!

If you are in college or know someone who will be attending later this year be sure to complete a financial aid application and the FAFSA for financial aid.  A lot of people wait until the last minute or just don't file at all because they believe they will not qualify for programs because they are need based.  Not all opportunities require need or above average grades.  You should always apply.  Even if you are not sure if you will be attending later this year, apply anyway.  You can always deny the financial aid package if you change your mind.  Also, visit your school's financial aid office to apply for available scholarships. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ #

Deal Alert!

Children's Place is offering an additional 50% off clearance starting today.  This is a good time to stock up on those much needed items for next year so you can save some money. It is also Happy Meal Tuesday.  Happy Meals are $1.99 at many McDonald's so take a break from making lunch or dinner for the kids today and treat them and yourself to a Happy Meal.

What's for Dinner?

Today, I plan to make spaghetti and meatballs.  I enjoy this meal because it is easy to sneak extra veggies into.  I use a mixture of beef and pork and finely chop onion, bell peppers, garlic and believe it or not a carrot and celery stalk.  I also use an egg and bread crumbs as a binder and garlic salt, oregano and black pepper to season.  If you do not have a food chopper, invest in one because it will save you lots of time.  I usually use jar sauce but I like to add a bay leaf, oregano, can of diced tomatoes, chopped mushrooms and finely chopped onions, peppers and garlic.  I serve a vegetable on the side as well.  When I serve this dish I cannot help but giggle to myself because my husband and son have no idea what they are eating and always go back for seconds.  Whatever colored speckles of veggies that can be traced will be camouflaged by the sauce.  I also always have enough sauce leftover to make a pizza later during the week.
